WINGER LEFT OUT OF LIVERRPOOL SQUAD

Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo has been left out of the 34-man squad heading to Austria for a pre-season training camp. Ojo was the obvious name missing when the squad for Austria was announced earlier this week. Liverpool head to Austria to start their training camp on Monday, July 12. There was no news on the reason for his omission from the Reds squad travelling to Salzburg, Austria at the start of next week to start preparations for the 2021/22 campaign.

Ojo has two years left on his current deal with Liverpool though a recent poll monitored by the Liverpool Echo showed that 80% of the Reds fans who participated won’t mind seeing him leave the club this summer.

Liverpool winger Ojo spent last season on loan at Welsh team Cardiff City in the English Championship. Ojo impressed manager Neil Harris to the extent that he was described as unbelievable by the Bluebirds boss. He scored five goals plus seven assists in 42 games in all competitions for Cardiff City last season.

Earlier reports had said that the winger will assess his Liverpool future on his return to Anfield from the loan spell with the Bluebirds and his omission from the Austria squad could point to an imminent exit this summer.

Ojo has a habit of performing well for his loan clubs. He was impressive for Rangers under the watchful eyes of manager Steven Gerrard in the penultimate season. Buoyed by a young manager like Steven Gerrard who’s a true Liverpool legend, Ojo scored five goals and assisted seven more for Rangers while he was on loan from Liverpool during the 2019/20 season. He would be remembered for years to come for his stunning goal against Dutch team Feyenoord in the Europa League. A reunion with Steven Gerrard at Rangers could be in the works. Who knows!
