SUAREZ IS ONE OF THE BEST

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has praised striker Luis Suarez by saying that he is one of the best in the world. The Liverpool midfielder praised the striker after he scored a wonder goal in the match against Norwich to seal his hat-trick. Gerrard spoke about the vision the Uruguay international possessed within him in order to spot the goalkeeper out of this line from the centre circle. It was a goal that was very much reminiscent of the one David Beckham scored during his time in England. It means that Luis Suarez now has his first hat-trick of the season and for Liverpool as well.

Liverpool will be taking on Chelsea in the FA Cup final next weekend. Prior to that, they have a league game as well. As a result, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish decided to rest Steven Gerrard for the match against Norwich City. He is expected to be back in the squad for the FA Cup final match. Liverpool had the opportunity to win the second title of the season after they have already lifted the Carling cup, but Gerrard reckons that it will be a tough match against Chelsea. Chelsea will be coming into the match on the back of a good run of form, which has seen them eliminate the current European Champions Barcelona from the Champions League, while they also eliminated Tottenham from the semifinals.

“He’s a special player, his movement’s first class and it makes my job as a midfielder easier alongside him. He’s a top player, one of the best in the world on his day, and today was his day. It was great finishing and we as a team could have had more. That’s the type of player he is, but I still had confidence he could get the third,” said Gerrard.

CARROLL: STEVIE WAS MY IDOL

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has said that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard used to be an inspiration for him when he was young. The striker has said that it is a dream come true to play alongside a player, who has been an idol to him till now. Gerrard is recognised to be one of the best players at Liverpool. Andy Carroll joined him last January for a transfer fee of £ 35 million, which is the record fee paid for a British player. However, he has been a disappointment at Liverpool for far, but that has been signs of resurgence within him in the last few weeks.

Andy Carroll has been able to score only three goals in 25 appearances for Liverpool this season. Despite this extremely poor record, Carroll is convinced that Steven Gerrard will be able to guide him through the lean patch. He has so far scored eight goals for Liverpool since making his move in 2011. Steven Gerrard recently scored a hat-trick in the 3-0 win over Everton at Anfield, thus becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in this fixture for more than 50 years. Carroll has said that he has not been able to settle at Liverpool due to the number of injury problems he faced during his initial part of the Liverpool career.

“You see Stevie playing the way he did against Everton, scoring three and driving the team on. It was really inspiring. He’s had an amazing career but you still know he’s desperate to achieve more. It’s the hunger you see every day, the determination to win more games, win medals and trophies. I used to watch him when I was younger and pretend to be him on the field with my mates. I’m very lucky to be able to share a dressing room with him now. It’s unbelievable,” Carroll said about Steven Gerrard.

TIME TO DELIVER

Liverpool midfielder and captain Steven Gerrard has said that it is about time Liverpool delivered a trophy for the fans to celebrate. Steven Gerrard has just returned from a long layoff due to various injury problems. He oversaw the defeat of Manchester City in the two legged semifinals of the Carling cup. This huge victory helped Liverpool make it into their first-ever Wembley appearance for the final of the Carling cup, which will take place soon. Liverpool will be up against the Championship side Cardiff city. Just prior to the match, Steven Gerrard has said that it is about time Liverpool won a trophy that fans can really celebrate about.

Steven Gerrard has overseen the likes of the FA Cup and the Champions League during his time at Liverpool. The 2005 Champions league was one of the major trophies Liverpool last tasted success. It is simply not good enough for a club like Liverpool to go this long without a major trophy. It is one of the reasons for Steven Gerrard to come out with the statement saying that Liverpool do need to perform extremely well against Cardiff City in order to have any chance of satisfying the fans, who have grown extremely hungry for success.

“Six years without a trophy for this football club isn’t good enough. It’s been too long and everyone knows that. It’s time we delivered a trophy. Everyone knows the club has been through some tough times but we’re moving forward now. We’re all desperate to bring success back. It’s what we’re working so hard to achieve,” Steven Gerrard told in an interview given to Liverpool Echo. Liverpool last won the Carling cup back in 2001. Steven Gerrard was a part of that Liverpool side, although yet to establish himself as a first team regular.

GERRARD HAPPY TO SIGN

Liverpool midfielder and captain Steven Gerrard has said that he is looking forward to signing a new contract with Liverpool in the future. Steven Gerrard recently completed the signing of the contract, the details of which has not been revealed by Liverpool.

However, it is thought to have extended the stay for the England midfielder at Anfield to almost four years. Steven Gerrard will be turning 32 years of age in the summer, but there have been speculation that the England midfielder cannot produce the goods for long. It has been speculated due to the number of injuries he has suffered in the last couple of years at Liverpool.

Steven Gerrard came close to leaving Liverpool in 2005 after his head was turned and due to the interest from Premier League Champions Chelsea. It was rumoured that Steven Gerrard was offered a contract worth £ 120,000 per week, which would have made him the highest-paid player in all of England. However, the England midfielder decided to stay with Liverpool after prolonged transfer negotiations. Even though Steven Gerrard is a long way from breaking the club record of more than 600 appearances, he is thought to be very fit to carry on playing in the next couple of years.

“I’m hoping to play beyond the length of this contract. I’m feeling fit and strong and I want to play for as long as I can. I don’t want to put any time frame on it. As long as I feel good and I’m performing at the top level I’ll keep going,” Steven Gerrard told the Liverpool Echo. He also said that he is hoping that this is not the last contract he signs with Liverpool. Despite being 31 years old, this would come as a strong statement from any player.
