Gerrard Instrumental In Liverpool Success

When the ongoing season had kick started, even the craziest of Liverpool fans would not have thought that with 3 matches to go in the season, their team would be topping the Premier League points table, but, it’s the reality now. The Reds are on the verge of lifting the league title for the first time in the last two decades.

The things can still turn around, but, the chances are pretty slim that Liverpool would get displaced from the top in the remaining part of the season especially after Chelsea getting beaten recently.

There are so many people who have been responsible for Liverpool being in this position at this stage, but, the one man who is the most responsible is the skipper of the side i.e. Steven Gerrard.

The 33 years old midfielder who has been with the club in the thick and thins since a very long time has played in a deeper role this time around and has contributed a lot. Apart from that, he has also provided the motivation to the young guys.
In one of his interviews a couple of days back, when Gerrard was asked if he had started thinking that he would have to retire without becoming a Premier League champion, he said, “Yes, at times, I perhaps would have thought like that, but, once Brendan arrives, he gave me a lot of hope. His strategies were pretty simple and clear. I got positive sort of energy after his arrival.”

Liverpool’s next match is against Chelsea on 27th of April. They will be playing that match at Anfield and they would like to seal the Premiership then and there. A win in that game would almost see them through.

NEW POSITION

During the last few matches of Liverpool, Steven Gerrard has been deployed into a new position which is partly due to the injury that Lucas Leiva sustained and now the English captain is being placed as a holding midfielder instead of his usual attacking minded spot in the pitch.

Earlier in the month of January during Liverpool’s match against Aston Villa, Gerrard seemed to struggle trying to adapt into his new role but in their next encounter which was against Everton it was a completely different match for Gerrard as he was much more comfortable and even scored the opening goal of the game.

According to Brendan Rodgers, Gerrard has silenced his critics.

Rodgers said: “If anyone ever questioned whether Steven Gerrard can play as a controlling midfielder then he put on one of the best performances I’ve seen for a long, long time.

“I thought he was sensational in that role – opening up the game from behind, his exhibition in blocking, when he marked space, when he marked a man. He controlled the game and it was wonderful.”

Following the 4-0 triumph of Liverpool against Everton, Gerrard told the club’s official website about what it feels like playing on a position for his team and he is confident that with time and work, he can improve much more and get things right.

“It’s a different position to the one that I’ve played for the last 12 or 15 years.

“Previously, I’ve been trying to get from box to box. But the new role is more about control and organizing the people in front of me.I know that with time and work on the training pitch, I can get it right because I believe I can play in a number of positions.” Gerrard wrote on Liverpool’s website.

Gerrard Keen On Retaining Luis Suarez

Steven Gerrard is seemingly impressed with the indomitable spirit of his club’s major goal scorer Luis Suarez. The Liverpool captain has advised his team to enjoy Suarez as much as possible while he still has his contract with them as soon big clubs would be looking to sign him in-given his amazing form at present.

Suarez scored 2 goals in Liverpool’s recent 5-0 triumph over Tottenham in the White Hart match & Gerrard feels that it’s significant for them to qualify for Champions League so that they can retain the leading goal scorer of Premier League.

The Liverpool captain was all in praise for Suarez. “He is just relentless, he never gives up irrespective of scoreline and you will always find him chasing the defenders”, stated an impressed Gerrard while speaking on Suarez. “He wished for a hat-trick for today- in the ninetieth minute of the match we saw him in an attempt for a 3rd goal & this is what sums Luis up, he won’t ever give up.”

“We are very lucky to have Luis in our club and we should enjoy him as long as he is with us. If he manages to continue with such a fantastic form, I loathe admitting this, but the biggies would be sniffing to get him in which we obviously don’t want”, Gerrard continued.

“Luis is our key to Champions League. If he manages to maintain the current magnificent form & keeps on delivering brilliant performances & goals akin to this, there is absolutely no doubt that Liverpool would be coming at top 4. This is what Suarez wants & that is what Luis deserves as well. The guy deserves a place in Champions League tournament. A goal scorer of this stature must be in Champions League”, added in the impressed captain of Liverpool.
